Description

Drive System: Cruise Mode is low-energy state where nacelles are
nestled in recesses in ship's hull. Battle Mode sees the nacelles
separate from the main hull and begin rotating about the hull at a
moderate speed in a manner reminiscent of planetary gears. By this I
mean that the 3 nacelles themselves rotate on their own individual
axis in a "rolling" motion about the man hull; which sees the group of
3 nacelles in turn rotating about it, like a planetary gear.

Lightning is structured such that the outermost hull areas
(space-side) see a tightly coherent web of cracking lightning much
like a membranous skin. Conversely the ship-side of the rotating
nacelle sees a lightning bolt spanning between the underside
(ship-side) of the rotating nacelle and the main hull.

The lightning would of course form and disperse on alternate zones of
the spinning nacelle in a manner geometrically similar in timing to an
individual tooth in rotational advancing toward or leaving from the
lightning bolt spanning between the main hull and the nacelle.

The rear propulsion jet of the main drive is a long coherent
jet-flame-shaped space of electric death. You try to hit it from
behind you get toasted. Period.

Gun System: The gun pillboxes are spheres that rotate like eyeballs.
If you want to get fancy you can have the pillbox spheres nestled into
the hull in cruise mode and separated in battle mode. In battle mose
the spheres might be "suspended" from the hull bu 3 or more lightning
bolts that might change in intensity in accordance with the direction
of pillbox rotation. The guns themselves would perhaps be oriented
straight through the center of the gun pillbox sphere.

A variety of munition, all lightning plasma based, could eminate from
these spheical pillbox guns. One would be a lightning bolts of high
linear coherence used as a raygun, another would be bolls of death
used as a plasma torpedo, and finally a highly indirect spray used as
an interception method for incoming enemy munitions (as the munition
comes into the spray the spray then all coalesces onto the enemy
projectile because physics is like that and the munition would
essentially become a lightning rod of sorts and get fried.)

Visual System (armored crew core/escape pod section): There are no
windows in this ship because windows are weak points. Instead the
entire hull is covered by thousands of high resolution cameras that
overlap fields of view again and again to make an
ultra-high-resolution picture that is projected otom a spherical
screen that literally envelops the bridge; itself located in the ship
such that there is maximal armour all around it. To score a hit on the
bridge you must literally crack all the way through it, penetrating
many layers of armor and other crap. In short this is very hard. I

In the event that the ship is pounded to crap the hull is sloughed off
the spherical bridge capsule and the capsule is an escape pod that
carry all but the red-shirts to safety.

Fighter bay: Hollow tube through center of ship with launch ramps or
catapults that shoot the ships out just over the rear drive plume.
This gives the pilot high assurance that attacks willnot come from
under his belley in the moments after launch...but he has to watch
that he does not dive into the drive plume either. It's a good trade
off.

Why this thing can kick your butt:

1.) The drive system is a close proximity kill zone to all but
hardened craft, which are expensive by most standards.

2.) To kill the crew you must literally destroy everything around them.

3.) Destroying the ship is far from a guarantee that you have killed
the crew. In space there are myriad fabrication facilities that can
make a new ship, but battle-hardened crews are a high-cost item.

4.) The weapon systems have great reach and are high speed,
particularly the plasma ball torpedoes, as they are directed by phase
array systems.

I like ships with extensive theories behind it. But it may have been too overpowered on hindsight :/
